The Adolescent Girls’ Program
One of the most impactful programs we have to offer the girls of our community has been a thriving empowerment program that we call Katingtingan Amathioul. This means “empower a girl” in the local Karoninka language of the village of Kafountine.
The Katingtingan Amathioul program is designed to empower the girls with the tools they need to stay in school and complete their education. Here they also learn how to avoid child marriage, early pregnancy, and violence. The girls in the program, ages 12-19, are educated over a three-year period with consistent workshops and weekly classes. Once they have completed the program, they may choose to move into a leadership position and become mentors for the girls joining the program thereafter.
This program has created a safe space for girls to come to, where we will assist them with any needs or questions they may have, offering them ongoing support and guidance.
These girls have our hearts and we at Senegal Health Institute are completely committed to this cause.
Investing in one girl's education can reshape a community, and furthermore, will leave a lasting impact on the country and the entire world. Child marriage rates decrease, child and maternal mortality rates drop, and the lifetime earnings of these girls will increase dramatically, creating more stability for the future of the families of Senegal.
